Top Investing Articles

Before I had any readers on this site I was actually writing some fairly good investing content on a regular basis. I’m afraid my efforts were only ever read by my own eyes. As a result, I think now that I have at least 1 reader (I’m kidding, at least I hope so
) I figured I would make a list of my past articles I think are a good read. Who knows, you might even learn something.
Capital Pool Company’s: A Different Way To IPO is an article that talks about perhaps one of the cheapest way for a company to go public. Yes, even small companies can go public and it shouldn’t cost millions!
So You Think Gold Will Hit $1,000? A short commentary on some of the reasons behind the falling US dollar and the potential for Gold to continue its rise.
Brokerage Fees Hurt Your Return on Investment was written to persuade beginners to wait until they have a few thousand dollars before investing, otherwise a large % of their capital ends up in a brokerage firms hand.
Investing Made Simple is a great article for someone who knows nothing about business or investing. I tried to break it down into simple terms to show anyone can learn! Investing doesn’t have to involve loads of financial jargon. I’m just trying to dispel the myth that the professional money managers will invest for you in your best interests.
Invest Like an Owner uses some of the principals that you can find when reading books on Warren Buffett!
ADM’s (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) are Bad is my rant about how evil the banks are in promoting adjustable rate mortgages when interest rates are at all time lows. How dare they trick their own customers into not locking in on these low rates! Especially after they lured their customers into spending more money (easy access to capital) and buying their dream house (which they can barely afford at current interest rate levels). Sigh. I hope you locked in your mortgage.
Mortgage Quick Tips… is self explanatory. A short but sweet article with some reference to other articles (in the comments) that will help you when it comes time to re-mortgage.
Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Diversify, Too Much is my rant about how every investor has been taught to diversify so much that it becomes almost impossible to out perform the market.
Financial Planning is a simple article I made that might help someone get out of debt… at least I hope it helps.
Kyoto is Lame is my rant about how the structure of Kyoto is completely wrong and how any monetary penalties should go into a big clean technology grant which each country would use to help get its top scientists, professors and businesses inventing new clean technologies instead of just buying stupid credits from other countries based on an acceptable level of pollution. I don’t buy the ‘humans’ are responsible for global warming (I didn’t say it isn’t warming, but c’mon, we’ve went through ice ages that had the entire continent under ice… and it all melted, without our help. There are natural cycles.) but I do believe that we shouldn’t pollute and that it is economically feasible to stop pollution (it will save us (and make us) money!). Argh.
Retirement Planning: The Power of Compound Interest is an article that deals with the power of compound interest. A little self explanatory but a must read for EVERYONE in my opinion. It isn’t revolutionary thinking, but every school kid should learn some financial basics and this is one of them. Why don’t they teach this in schools? Sigh again.
Interest Rates Matter goes hand in hand with the article on compound interest above.
EUR/USD Outlook goes into great detail about possible reasons why the USD is suffering so bad. It has a lot more detail about the possibility of the Amero (a North American Currency) and why the USD is falling… and even talks about China briefly. An extremely interesting and controversial read!
Stock Warrants - A Great Alternative To Options discusses how many warrants operate just like options but are usually a longer term investment and they have their own ticker symbol. It is an interesting way to leverage your money.
Q & A: How should I use an inheritance? My take on inheritances and whether to invest or buy a home.
Safe Investments Like CDs and T-Bills Are No Longer Safe is a rant about how the low interest rates that ’safe’ investments give are really not safe at all… they are guaranteed losers! Read more (hint: inflation)!
TSX-Venture Red Hot talks about the hottest stock market in the world during the last few years, and it wasn’t in some risky third world/developing nation… it was the TSX-Venture right here in Canada. You’d be surprised how many people got super rich and how many are still to come… we have a large number of the worlds resources.
Don’t Use Stop Losses talks about my experience in using stop losses. Obviously stop losses are a requirement for short term traders (so don’t bother being mean and yelling at me for that post) but for the long term trader, a stop loss is nothing but information you shouldn’t tell the world… due to L2 quotes, a stop loss is an advertisement for your selling price… something that manipulators take into consideration.
Top 10 Mistakes Investor’s Make… is exactly what it sounds like. Are you making any of these mistakes?
I hope you check out these articles and some of the many others I decided not to post here. I have too many to list. Use the categories at the side (in particular, Articles has many articles
. Enjoy!

Solid post list man! Interesting you don’t use stop losses, they can be a lifesaver if you aren’t sitting at your comp!

They might be a life saver for the day trader, but for a long term investor… it isn’t the most important thing…
In that example I was trading silver on a forex broker, so I was using a stop loss… then I seen firsthand what some brokers do when you have a stop loss set… It went down to my exact stop loss and bounced up immediately back to the normal price… it was too fishy. I’m very cautious with stop losses.
